After 13 days of walking the Camino, I had my first rest day in Burgos. A few days prior, I had found a hotel on Booking, so I could have a night in my very own private room. It was so needed and nice. The hotel was actually quite cozy, very centrally located, and at a fair price. I can definitely recommend staying there. I found a cozy café and had a good breakfast. Then I explored the city. I tried not to walk too far and did everything at a leisurely pace, because after all, it was my rest day, and I wanted to give my legs and feet a break.
Here are 5 recommendations of what to see if you have a day in Burgos:
1.Burgos Cathedral
The cathedral in Burgos is so beautiful and magnificent! Wow! It is on the UNESCO World Heritage list and is known for its grand architecture and artistic details. Definitely a must-see.
2. Castillo de Burgos
Late in the afternoon, I walked up to the castle, which is situated on a hill with a truly beautiful view over the city. I love views, and this one certainly did not disappoint! There was a panoramic view over the whole city, and the cathedral also looked magnificent from a distance.
3. Museo de la Evolución Humana
I only looked in briefly here, but was too tired to actually check the place out, even though it looked quite inspiring. It is a museum dedicated to human evolution and contains findings from the nearby Atapuerca caves, which are one of the most important archaeological sites in the world.
4. Paseo del Espolón
I can recommend a walk along this beautiful promenade by the Arlanzón River. The area is surrounded by trees, statues, and cafés, and is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the city’s atmosphere.
5. Lunch Spot – Masala Natural
Here I had a really delicious and healthy lunch. I felt I needed a nutritious meal full of vegetables, as that’s not the most common thing along the Camino. I will definitely eat here again if I come back. There was also a nice shop with organic vegetables and various delicious products right next to the restaurant.
I will end with another picture of the cathedral because it was truly magnificent, and I spent several hours just sitting and enjoying the view of it. Inside, it is also incredibly beautiful and definitely worth a visit.
